Position: Accounting Manager Assistant Salary: Depending on Experience Reports to: Accounting Manager Position Summary:The Accounting Manager assistant to the Accounting Manager, the Accounting Manager assistant position manages the general ledger accounting functions, including the supervision of 12-13 staff month-end closing and reporting, compilation of the monthly financial statements, and financial information packets for the Board of Directors presentation. The position is responsible to assist in managing the annual audit process including compilation and review of statements to be audited. It is also responsible for managing the provider payments, fixed asset, tax and treasury accounting functions. The manager assistant performs detail reviews of all account reconciliation and ensures the journal entries are accurate, appropriately documented and that the overall accounting documentation is maintained appropriately. This is a full-time position, middle management position requiring expertise in administrative, supervisory and accounting functions. Receives direction for the Accounting Manager; provides direct supervision to supervisors; senior accountants, and accounting staff. Example of Duties and Responsibilities:· The accounting manager assistant monitors compliance with accounting and financial reporting requirements of Federal, State, and other regulatory authority· The accounting manager assistant should be knowledgeable with GAAP, Accounting Office of Management and Budget Circular A-133, Government Auditing Standards, and Audit Guide for Audits of Child Development particularly as related to non-profit organizations.· Solid understanding of financial internal control attributes and is able to identify and correct weaknesses in same and appropriately assess risk vs. benefit when proposing alterations to existing processes.· Assist with the daily activities of the Accounting Department.· The Accounting Manager assistant provides leadership and direction to the General Ledger Accounting staff.· Empowers staff to take responsibility for their respective areas; collaborates and coaches staff to achieve optimally efficient and accurate work.· Builds effective relationships with colleagues and throughout the company to instill confidence in and gain respect for the finance division.· Trains/Supervisor staff to recognize and prevent potential accounting errors.· Provide staff training and perform staff mid-year evaluation and annual focal point evaluations.· Participate in the development of policies and procedures.· Assist to coordinate work plan; assign projects, programs and activities; review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures; identify and resolve problems.· Prepare audit schedules.· Assist in the preparation of the annual budget document, including compiling approved departmental expenditures budgets, revenue estimates and various narratives into the annual budget document.· Month end closing and reporting.· Knowledge of Fund Accounting System. (Agency uses Black baud Fund Accounting System)· Assist preparing financial reports.· Handle audit issues, reporting, and requests under accounting manager instructions.· Occasionally may be required to perform other duties not specified in the job description· Additional duties may be assigned as required Education and/or Experience:Graduation from a recognized college or university with a B.S. /B.A. in accounting, finance, public or business administration or related education.Minimum 5 years’ experience in supervising Accounting staff.Experience working with financial auditors.
