The Tax Accountant is accountable for the collection of tax-related information, reporting to taxation authorities at the federal, state, county, and local levels in a timely manner. The Tax Accountant will manage tax engagements including preparation of individual and business tax returns and multi-state filings. In addition, the position will perform tax research and planning as well manage and train staff. The Tax Accountant should communicate directly and build strong relationships with the clients. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS· Devise tax strategies to defer or eliminate tax payments· Create tax data collection systems· Complete required tax reporting in a timely manner· Prepare and update tax provision schedules· Update the company sales tax database as tax rates change· Coordinate audits by various taxation authorities· Research and correct process errors that caused incorrect tax filings· Negotiate with tax authorities over tax payment issues· Advise management regarding the tax impact of corporate strategies and new laws on tax liabilities· Coordinate outsourced tax preparation work· Identify tax savings in prospective acquisition scenarios KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES· 3 to 7 years of federal and state tax experience in public accounting· Experience preparing individual and business returns, as well as filing multi-state returns, strongly preferred· Strong technical, leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision· Ability to collaborate in a team environment and meet critical deadlines· Familiarity with the mortgage and/or private lending industries is a plus EDUCATION/ CERTiFICATION/ SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS· Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Tax, Finance or related discipline· CPA license or progression towards obtaining one, required· ProSystem tax and engagement software proficiency, preferred.
