The Alameda Crisis Residential Facility will be an unlocked, voluntary psychiatric program that will help adults stabilize their mental health symptoms, develop effective self-reliance skills, and in essence, restore a person's sense of hope and purpose. It is a 16 bed program serving adults age 18+. Consumers will have access to a broad spectrum of services and activities there, including individual and group therapy, education and training around medication management, substance recovery, healthy eating and fitness, mindfulness, art therapy, living skills and vocational skills training, linkages to community support systems, self-advocacy training, aftercare planning, and counseling for their family members. POSITION SUMMARY Peer Counselor will support and amplify the consumer voice in treatment as part of the multidisciplinary staff team. The Peer Counselor will assist in orienting new consumers to the facility, and provide supportive counseling to the consumer and his or her family members, including help in navigating the system of care. The Peer Counselor will co-lead groups and assist each consumer in developing a recovery plan. Finally, the Peer Counselor will ensure that discharge planning includes linkage to peer-led and wellness services (Wellness and Recovery Centers, Clubhouse programs) as appropriate. QUALIFICATIONS Experience as a mental health consumer or family member of an individual who has received mental health services is required. At least one year of experience working in a program for mental health consumers is required. Preference is given to peers/family members who have completed a peer certification training program. Must have knowledge of local community resources and public transportation. Peer Counselors must be willing and able to use their own personal experiences with recovery to engage, support, and advocate for other consumers. High School diploma or G.E.D. is required. Must have completed or be willing to complete a peer certification training course if have not done so previously. Must have completed first aid and CPR training.
